About the Log Rules

  • Doyle BF = (D − 4)² × L ÷ 16. Standard across eastern & southern U.S. hardwood markets. Tends to under-estimate small logs.
  • Scribner A board-drawing rule used on U.S. National Forest sales. Usually a mid-range estimate.
  • International 1/4" Includes taper and kerf assumptions, so it's generally the most consistent with actual mill yield.

Estimates only — the "right" rule is the one your buyer or region uses.
